Success for the soup run On Sunday 5th December a small group of our mums got together and traveled up to the Strand, London to give out hot soup, bread, other foods, blankets, sleeping bags, hats, scarves, gloves and other warm items to the homeless. It was a very special evening and a real eye opener. We were able to feed over 150 people and give out over 200 items of clothing.
This idea started when one of our regular mums was lying awake one cold night feeling so grateful for the warmth she has and started to think about the many people cold and sleeping on the streets. She began to dream about how we could deliver hot soup to bring a bit of warmth so with the help of so many people around us we traveled up on Louis Double Decker bus packed full of clothing and food. Almost immediately as we pulled up we were surrounded by people in desperate need. The first thing we were asked was “When will you be back?”
Their were tears from one of ours mums as she spoke to the young pregnant girl and her partner seen on the bottom left and was so moved by her story she was already planning how we can raise money for the next soup run. We were able to give our contact details to this young girl and hopefully she will come to the shop to collect all that she needs for her baby.
We were surprised and humbled by the attitude of those on the streets. Even in their circumstances they were smiling and so grateful for what they had received. Towards the end of the evening there was a young boy who performed some music and all the people of the streets really enjoyed it and were so encouraging to him.
For so many this was something they had never experienced and are wanting to help again. We are looking at how we can regularly help the homeless in our surrounding areas.
